Stephen Power's musical training began as a chorister and choral scholar at
Gloucester Cathedral, and continued at the University of Huddersfield.
It was there he began singing counter tenor, both in the Early Music Ensemble,
and at Leeds Parish Church. He was an organist prize-winner upon graduation and
spent two years as organ scholar at Wakefield Cathedral before becoming Acting
Assistant Director of Music at Ripon Cathedral. He then spent a year at Grimsby
Parish Church as Sub Organist, latterly becoming acting Master of the Choristers.
In 2006 Stephen moved to Southwell Minster, Nottinghamshire, to become a Lay
Clerk in the Cathedral Choir and Liturgy & Music Assistant, returning to
Gloucester in 2010.
At Gloucester he holds the posts of Chorister Tutor and Alto
Lay Clerk, but he continues to play the organ and gives recitals and accompanies
various vocal ensembles nationally, including Worcester Cathedral Chamber Choir
and Monmouth Choral Society (from January 2012).
Stephen is a soloist on Southwell Minster Choir's 2009 Christmas recording 'Lo!
Newborn Jesus'. He now studies singing with Nicholas Clapton.
